Moulid Of Abul Haggag

Moulid Of Abul Haggag

Islam doesn’t have saints per se, but every village has a holy person, or wali, in its history whose life is honored with annual celebrations. The moulids have a carnival-like atmosphere, and the Moulid of Abul Haggag, centered on the Abul Haggag mosque in Luxor Temple, is held three weeks prior to the Muslim month of Ramadan (during the summer months for the next few years). During the featured procession, local Sufi brotherhoods display their banners, and in the case of Abul Haggag, a wooden boat is carried aloft, echoing a pharaonic tradition.
